After developing code that analyzes the safety of advanced nuclear reactors, scientists from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory recently won a R&D 100 Award. The tool, called the System Analysis Module (SAM) Reactor Analysis Code, uses the latest advances in numerical methods, physical modeling and software engineering to simulate entire nuclear power plants.
